Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and Quentin “Rampage” Jackson are renowned fighters who are known primarily for their striking. They are also former light heavyweight champions who have gone up against some of the best fighters in the world.
The UFC light heavyweight division is the most competitive, and features some of the best fighters in the organization. Machida versus Jackson can be described as the classic bout of speed against power.
There was speculation that Jackson was originally supposed to face Machida after The Dragon had won the light heavyweight title from Rashad Evans. After taking a hiatus from the octagon, Jackson returned to face Evans in a losing effort.
As for Machida, he was undefeated until losing the light heavyweight title to Maurcio Rua earlier this year.
Machida’s evasive striking may be a problem for Jackson, who in the past, has been caught off guard with kicks to the legs. Since his loss to Forrest Griffin, he has been working on not only his wrestling ability, but his boxing as well. Jackson’s improvement has shown in his fights against Keith Jardine and Silva.
In addition to their striking, both Machida and Jackson have Brazilian jiu-jitsu in their game.
Although it has not been officially announced, Machida and Jackson are set to face each other in the near future. When this match will take place is uncertain, although it is speculated that this match up will take place in February 2011.
